News & Crier Article Here at Huntingdon Town Partnership it is business as usual. An independent organisation since 1998, our work involves a wide variety of projects, all aimed at making Huntingdon a better place for residents, shoppers, workers and visitors. Funding comes from a variety of sources including sponsors, members fees, promotional space, event fees, fundraising and in kind support. Thank you to all the local businesses and organisations who support us, through sponsorship or membership, and value the work we do each year. Our members represent a wide cross section of the community including charities, churches, the museum, the racecourse, restaurants, hotels, the radio station and of course retailers. In the future we will continue to do what is best for Huntingdon. If you would like to join us please use the contact details at the end of this article. The more supporters there are in the Partnership, the more we can achieve together. I am often asked “You are always so positive about Huntingdon. Do you really feel that the future is bright?” Well yes I do. Many towns, given the current climate, would love to have the exciting list of significant planning projects for sites in and around Huntingdon, all of which will bring employment, housing and more reasons to visit Huntingdon. The projects include the three Sainsbury’s sites, new and old locations; the Huntingdon West link road; the multi storey car park; The Water Tower and the anticipated Chequer’s Court planning application. The increase in parking spaces will also be very welcome with 470 spaces in the new Sainsbury’s development and a net gain of 300+ spaces in the multi storey car park. It is important in the short to medium term that the developments go ahead with the minimum of disruption to the town and this is something I will be focusing on. One thing is certain, Huntingdon will be well placed to serve residents and visitors well in to the next decade. News from the High Street - the brand new, stand alone Oxfam Bookshop opened in mid April. Congratulations to Richard Meredith and the team at 101 High Street, near The George Hotel. They are on the look out for volunteers and any books you are able to donate. The existing Oxfam charity shop remains in Chequer’s Court. Argos (High Street) is awaiting a refurbishment and Costa Coffee has had an internal refit with the addition of new comfy seats. By the river, the patio area of the Old Bridge Hotel has been redesigned and extended for our comfort this summer. Last, but certainly not least, we are extremely pleased to welcome Huntingdon Community Radio fm (HCR fm) to our airwaves. Find them on 104 fm, in the studio at the Saxongate Centre or via the website www.hcrfm.co.uk. More news about HCR fm next time and also details of the FREE “Historic Town Trail” which will be ready for distribution in June.
