News & Crier Article
Edition dated 19 January 2011

With a brief look back over our shoulder to 2010, Huntingdon ended on a high note, as another new business, Polish Taste, opened on the Saturday before Christmas, in St Benedicts Court.  There are just four units in the town centre that have remained empty for more than 12 months which is an amazing statistic given the economic backdrop.

At Huntingdon Town Partnership we will be working really hard to continue with positive messages about Huntingdon throughout 2011, working with our many partners, including the press and other local media.

Looking to the future we have a whole raft of development plans on the drawing board and 2011 will determine the next steps for the following: Huntingdon West Area plans including the link road, the multi storey car park, Sainsbury’s existing store and petrol station site, Sainsbury’s new store and the future plans for Chequers Court.  Many of these projects are going through the planning stages and almost all the plans are interlinked.  These decisions will determine a “new look” Huntingdon and set the scene for the future prosperity of the town, creating businesses opportunities and jobs.

Don’t forget we have a whole host of reasons for you to visit Huntingdon throughout the year and Sunday is a great day to visit as there are nearly 90 shops, cafes and other destinations open, including the Library and the Cromwell Museum, and parking is FREE.  The new Farmers’ Market calendar 2011 has been issued for the popular fortnightly market.  The next date is Friday 21 January, then fortnightly, with occasional Saturday markets when there are five Saturdays in the month.  A list of the locations open on Sundays and the Farmers’ Market calendar can be found on the Town Partnership website www.huntingdontownpartnership.co.uk.  The Traditional Market takes place every Wednesday and Saturday throughout the year and following the introduction of a new layout in late 2010 they are proving really popular
