New & Crier article Huntingdon Town Partnership Date 1 July 2010 Throughout the year I get involved in a wide variety of projects, all of which are focused on making Huntingdon a better place for everyone including visitors to our town. There is a great web site www.visithuntingdonshire.org with a range of information including local events, what to do and a whole section of tourist information downloads. This is also a good place to look for accommodation as the web site leads you to a range of local hotels, B&B’s, self-catering and camping alternatives.
The flowers in Huntingdon are fantastic every year. The judges for Anglia in Bloom will be here again next week to judge Huntingdon and we hope for a repeat of the Gold Award of 2009. Good luck to the Huntingdon in Bloom team and all the grounds staff at both Huntingdon Town Council and Huntingdonshire District Council – we appreciate all your hard work and expertise. Huntingdonshire Business Against Crime (HBAC) was launched in Huntingdon in 2004. This extremely successful daytime scheme was joined by a NightWatch scheme in St Ives just over a year ago. Both organisations are non profit making crime prevention schemes, working in partnership to helping local businesses by reducing crime and associated costs. A recent survey of Huntingdon residents has provided a sound benchmark of the perception of safety in Huntingdon town centre at night. More details can be found at www.hbac.org.uk. Congratulations to Mrs Swallow, who won a prize for answering the survey, she said ‘I answered the survey because as a grandmother of 16 I have concerns about local crime. We want a safe environment for our families”. There will be a second survey towards the end of the year after NightWatch is launched in Huntingdon. Do you enjoy living in this area and are you happy with the services provided? Have your say at the next Neighbourhood Forum, where local residents can voice their opinions on a variety of topics. The meeting takes place at the Civic Suite, Pathfinder House on Wednesday 14 July at 7pm. Representatives from all the local service providers will be represented including the Police, District Council and Town Council. More details at www.huntsdc.gov.uk A great local service is the Post Office, which will be relocating to WH Smith in the High Street on Thursday 15 July. Protecting services is fundamental to a successful town as the variety of services have a big impact on where people chose to live and the quality of life. Changes at Hinchingbrooke Hospital are in the spotlight again with the proposed franchise model, the first of its kind in the country, which has been well covered in the local press. A rally in support of the hospital takes place on Saturday 10 July starting at Riverside car park from 12 noon. Have a great summer, shop local and enjoy the floral displays Katy Sismore, Huntingdon Town Partnership Manager Tel: 01480 450 250 Email:
