News & Crier article Huntingdon Town Partnership Date 6 June 2010 It is summer, the sun is shining and there is some fantastic outdoor entertainment lined up with the parks and historic locations of Huntingdon providing great venues.
Listen to live music in the Town Park bandstand, with a different band playing every Saturday, 12 June to 28 August from 12 noon to 2pm. This is a great way to while away a few hours and listen to the wide range of music that has been organised by the Town Council. To make sure you do not miss your favourite band all the details are on www.huntingdontown.gov.uk Huntingdon Heritage Festival is a spectacular FREE event not to be missed at the Riverside Park on Saturday 26 June 11am to 5pm and Sunday 27 June 11am to 4pm. Wander through a living history encampment, an historical market and whilst you are there talk to Oliver Cromwell. Watch the ranks of warriors and soldiers from various centuries engaging in fierce combat using replica weapons. The finale will be a spectacular joust by Knights of the Damned with their breathtaking display of stunts and horsemanship. In the historic courtyard of the George Hotel, Shakespeare at the George presents “Cymbeline - King of Britain” from Tuesday 22 June to Saturday 3 July starting at 7.30pm. This will be the first time that ‘Cymbeline’ has been presented at ‘The George’. This Shakespeare play has a romantic simplicity and tenderness for a thing ‘long lost and beautifully recovered’. Keeping your child safe at any large event or just shopping in town is critical and to help a new wristband for kids has been launched at a recent event to raise awareness of personal safety whilst out and about. The bright yellow wristbands are free, have space for a telephone number and can be reused. There are 50 free wristbands and information leaflets to give away! The personal safety event was organised by Huntingdonshire Business Against Crime in partnership with CCTV and the Police and sponsored by Huntingdon Town Partnership. Getting around Huntingdon is easy if you are a local resident but visitors need guidance. Huntingdon Town Partnership is revising the 10 wall mounted maps showing shops and destinations in Huntingdon. The map is also used for 20,000 printed leaflets called “A Guide to Shops and Services” which is then available FREE for visitors.
