News & Crier article Huntingdon Town Partnership Date 2 September 2010 We have had some exciting new businesses opening in Huntingdon in the last few weeks. Many of the businesses are independent entrepreneurs who are happy to invest in our town in these challenging times. Please support all our local businesses as they are what make Huntingdon a great destination.
Enis’z and the Orange phone shop, both in the High Street I mentioned last month. They are joined by HC Solicitors, next door to The Darjeeling at the northern end of the High Street and www.trisportsplus.co.uk, selling triathlon equipment, adjacent to Hodson’s Fish Bar. Finally in the High Street, at first floor level above Coleman’s, a photographic studio, Jewell Harrison Studios, also with studios in Bedford, Cambridge and Milton Keynes. The hugely popular Continental Market returns to Huntingdon town centre for the 9th year from Thursday 30th September to Saturday 2nd October. The Market will feature the best of Continental produce with over 25 stalls selling goods and produce from France, Spain, Holland, Italy, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The Mayor of Huntingdon, will officially open the event at 10am in the Market Square on Thursday 30th September. The Market, organised by Huntingdon Town Partnership, has always proved to be a strong attraction to visitors from across the region but as a small market town it is a joint project with the market organiser to bring a real treat to Huntingdon and attract shoppers and visitors to the town. This year we recognise the market is only here due to the support of three Cambridgeshire County Councillors who spoke up against the introduction of a significant financial charge for a road closure license, (in the eight previous years this license has been at no charge), which if it had been enforced would have cancelled this popular annual event! So a BIG THANK YOU to our three County Councillors - Cllr Laine Kadic, Cllr Jeff Dutton and Cllr Sir Peter Brown. Being part of a successful town is great and we have been surrounded by developments for several years now. The future of Huntingdon retail is in the spotlight again! Sainsbury’s will be holding a consultation event to showcase their plans for Huntingdon. Everyone is invited to visit the Commemoration Hall on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th September between 10am and 4pm. There will be more details in the local press nearer the time. Finally – Christmas is coming. Plans are in place for the Big Switch On of the Christmas lights on Sunday 28 November 1pm to 5pm in the town centre. If you would like to join in the annual community festivities please contact the Town Partnership office on 01480 450 250 or e mail
